Hannes Ametsreiter was born in Salzburg in 1967. He studied journalism and communication studies there, together with sport science. After completing his doctorate, he continued his academic education with an MBA at Pepperdine University in the USA.

He began his professional career as an international brand manager with Procter & Gamble. In 1996 Hannes Amestreiter transferred to the telecommunications sector, working in product management for mobilkom austria.

From January 2001 to March 2009 Hannes Ametsreiter had board level authority for sales and marketing in mobilkom austria, which since June 2002 has also included customer services. From July 2005 until June 2006 he was CMO of Mobiltel, a member of the mobilkom austria group, in Bulgaria.

As of July 1, 2007 Hannes Ametsreiter was appointed Chief Marketing Officer of Telekom Austria TA AG and starting from January 1, 2009 also as  Head of the Fixed Net segment of the Telekom Austria Group. He has also been appointed as CEO of Telekom Austria TA AG.

Since April 1, 2009 Hannes Ametsreiter acts as Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of the Board of the Telekom Austria Group and Chief Executive Officer of mobilkom austria AG. Hannes Ametsreiter remains Chief Executive Officer of the Telekom Austria Group and since the merger of mobilkom austria and Telekom Austria in July 2010, he also acts as CEO of A1 Telekom Austria.

Along with his strong commitment within Telekom Austria Group Hannes Ametsreiter is also a Board Member of the GSM Association and founding member of the Wholesale Applications Community where he also acts as Board member. He has recently been voted No 58 of Global Telecoms Business Power 100 the annual list of the 100 most powerful executives in the telecoms industry. Hannes Ametsreiter is also shortlisted by the World Communication Awards for CEO of the year 2010. In April 2010 he has also been awarded as “Influencer of the Year” for Austria by Management Events. In 2008 he received the international Marketing award “CMO of the Year 2008” awarded by Booz & Company.
